STARCK EYES COLLECTION
Collaborating together,
Alain Mikli and Philippe Starck released their new concept of eyewear
at the Silmo Optical Industry Exhibition in 1996. This concept is designed
to represent the next millennium in eyewear. Their combined creativity
and talent has given rise to the idea of biovision. "Eyeglasses inspired
by the human being". 1998 saw more styles, colours and the addition of
the half eye.
Starck Eyes' hinge,
the successor to the conventional screw hinge, is a biomechanical articulation
designed like a human micro-clavicle. Inspired by the arm's natural intelligence,
it shares the same multi-directional freedom of movement. The secret of
its strength: a tendon made of braided composite fibre that can withstand
tensile loadings of up to 80kg. As seen in the minimalistic form, Phillipe
Starck's influence was not to design for design sake, but to create eyewear
that bordered on being the invisible object.
New in 1998 for Starck
Eyes came the idea of creating spectacles for ever changing facial needs.
Not everyone's skin tones, facial contours and expectations for their
personal appearance are the same. This collection of Starck Eyes is like
"make-up". Enriched with various coloured lenses- yellow, green, orange
and blue, the result is a modern collection that hinges on a modern sportive
look.
Being very fashionable
yet discreet, Starck Eyes offers a low profile modern sporty look, incorporating
various new lens colours. The result is new new eyewear that blends with
the wearer's facial features, to reveal his or her personality.
Today Starck Eyes
uses the same biomechanics of the past. With the advent of new colourations
and styles, the Starck frame is suited for both men and women alike. Choose
the model that is best suited to your needs. Transparent frames with lenses
held by an invisible nylon string that can be used for everyday use. A
wire rim version for sunglasses or prescription needs. The highspeed frames
for added wrap-around protection. Four models, each with one very distictive
feature- a flat profile and three distictive curves that wrap progressively
from one style to the next. All Starck Eyes sunglasses are fitted with
XSIGHTING Parallel Vision Control panoramic lenses.
